Cumberland Emerging Technologies
Cumberland Pharmaceuticals, in a joint initiative with the Tennessee Technology Development Corporation and Vanderbilt University, established Cumberland Emerging Technologies, Inc. (CET), formed to bring biomedical technologies and products conceived at Vanderbilt and other regional research centers to the marketplace. CET provides a vehicle for commercializing work initiated by researchers, and provides Cumberland Pharmaceuticals with a long-term product pipeline. CET is a component of Tennessee's biotechnology initiatives defined in its New Economic Strategy, aimed at the creation of hi-tech jobs and other benefits to the local economy.
CET works with universities, hospitals, and other research organizations and entrepreneurs to identify innovative projects and seek development funding, either from private sector investment or through federal Small Business (SBIR/STTR) grant programs. CET also provides program management for the investigators, and an appropriate infrastructure for realizing the commercial potential of their discoveries and, more importantly, for bringing their work to patients who can benefit.
CET also established a Life Sciences Center where this development work can be undertaken. The center provides scientists with access to flexible lab space and other resources to develop their products.
CET draws from the strengths of its partners, with access to a Scientific Advisory Board comprised of leading clinicians and directors of medical research institutes as well as a Life Sciences Center Advisory Board of local government, academic and other industry representatives. CET also benefits from the regulatory, manufacturing, marketing, sales and distribution capabilities of Cumberland Pharmaceuticals.
